YOUR QUESTIONS, YOUR PRIORITIES

What do you need to understand about your super?

The useful questions often change as your income, family and retirement plans change.

01

Is my current fund still suitable?

You may have accounts from earlier jobs, investment choices you have not reviewed, or insurance you are unsure about.

02

Would an SMSF suit me?

You may want more involvement in investment decisions and need to understand the costs, responsibilities and alternatives.

03

How will super support retirement?

You may be approaching retirement and considering contributions, access to your savings and future income needs.

REVIEWING YOUR SUPER

Look at the whole arrangement.

We consider your existing super alongside your cash flow, other assets and retirement goals.

01

Fund and investment choices

Review fees, investment options, risk and performance in context. A change of fund needs a clear reason and consideration of what you may give up.

02

Contribution planning

Consider before-tax and after-tax contributions, salary sacrifice, spouse contributions and unused contribution caps where available. Eligibility, limits and your cash needs matter.

03

Insurance and beneficiaries

Check the cover held through your fund and your beneficiary nominations. Combining accounts or changing funds may affect existing insurance and other benefits.

04

Preparing for retirement income

Consider when you may be able to access super and how withdrawals could fit your spending needs, investments and other sources of income.

SMSF ADVICE AND SUPPORT

More control comes with more responsibility.

We advise on whether an SMSF is suitable for you. If it is, we arrange for the accountant to prepare the deeds. Once the fund is established, we organise the bank account and rollovers.

01

Your reasons for an SMSF

Start with what you want to achieve and whether your existing fund or another super option could meet those needs.

02

Costs and ongoing work

Consider setup and running costs, record keeping, annual reporting and the time you are willing and able to commit.

03

Investments and cash needs

Consider diversification, liquidity and risk alongside the fund’s retirement purpose and the needs of its members.

04

Planning for change

Think about how the fund would operate if a trustee became unwell, died or could no longer manage it, including when winding it up may be appropriate.

UNDERSTAND THE TRADE-OFFS

An SMSF is not the right choice for everyone.

Trustees remain legally responsible for their fund, even when they use professional advisers. An SMSF does not guarantee better returns or lower costs, and some protections available in other super funds do not apply.

Super also has contribution and access rules. We consider those limits alongside investment risk and your need for money outside super before recommending a strategy.

HOW ADVICE WORKS

A clear process, with room for your questions.

We begin with your priorities and existing arrangements. If advice is suitable, we explain the proposed work and fees before you decide whether to proceed. Any ongoing service is agreed separately.

01

Understand your priorities and current position

02

Agree the advice scope and fees

03

Explain your options and the practical next steps

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about super and SMSFs.

The right approach depends on your circumstances, not simply your account balance.

01

Should I combine my super accounts?

Possibly, but first compare fees, investments, insurance and any benefits you could lose. Moving or closing an account can end insurance that may be difficult to replace.

02

Is there a set balance that makes an SMSF worthwhile?

Balance is one consideration. Costs, investment needs, your knowledge and the time you can commit also matter. A particular balance does not establish that an SMSF is suitable.

03

Can I contribute more to super?

You may have options, depending on your age, balance, contribution history and other eligibility rules. We consider available caps and the money you need for other commitments before recommending extra contributions.

04

What happens if an SMSF is suitable for me?

We arrange for the accountant to prepare the deeds. Once the fund is established, we organise the bank account and rollovers.
